About GirlFaxx
The contributions of women and girls are being studied and quantified by businesses, institutions and global organizations. Why?
There is growing evidence that women have a force multiplier effect on markets, businesses, economies, global and social issues and therefore, on global sustainability.
#girlfaxx is a compendium of news and statistics, documenting this phenomenon.
#girlfaxx is the empirical data Feminism has been waiting for.
During my semester abroad in the UK, my Women and Theater prof asked this as her first question: ‘Who here is a Feminist, raise your hand’? I didn’t. Because, I didn’t know what a Feminist was. She said, ‘don’t worry, be the end of the course, you will all be raising your hands. And I did. What I learned during that semester…it blew my mind. After a not politically or culturally diverse and sheltered upbringing, it was the first time I saw the world…and myself…in a whole new way.
When I got home, though, I found it difficult to have empowering conversations about Feminism- guys thought we hated them and that we were trying to take something away from them- and with other women the conversation wasn’t being held in the mainstream, but rather it was limited, for me, to pre-protest sign-and-whine sessions.
Years later when I got my M.A. in Social Entrepreneurship and learned about using business models to disrupt social service and enterprise models, it all came together. I saw the contributions of women and girls as the innovation to disrupt businesses, markets, economies, social issues and impact global sustainability.
Thank you for joining me in this conversation.
